Today I would like to discuss three fanfics written by my classmates for our first brief of the semester.

The first I is simply called COMM500: Brief #1: Create and it is by Sarah Tribble despite this I quite enjoyed this story. This story takes place in the universe of Harry Potter, a universe I know very little about, but I do have a layman's understanding of the world. This fic takes place across the canon of Harry Potter and summing up the years of the books with Hermione's relationship with Viktor Krum, a character I am unfamiliar with, however this is okay, as his character is presented well enough that I can understand him and Hermione's attraction to him, this almost instant understanding of a character's outside is very well done. As someone in a long distance relationship I was able to relate to the sending of letters and the wait for a response, although it isn't nearly as long to send them through the internet as it is by bird, but I still liked seeing it. (1)

The second I would like to discuss is also about Harry Potter. Entitled My own work (for brief 1) by Anna Patricia, this fic deals with death and once again characters I don't really know. This story involves the generation of Harry's parents and Sirius Black. This story starts off with some fun banter regarding the pranks that kids pull on each other the kind of fun that I like seeing among kids. However this does not last as Lucy Winterson is informed of the deaths of her parents at the hands of Death Eaters, it then goes on to deal with Lucy's feelings towards this and her friends' feelings towards it and them trying to help her, Sirius in particular. These themes of the family you are given vs the friends you make I love and I really liked seeing how it was handled here. I do have one bit of constructive criticism however, at one point the tense appears change from past to present and back, and it feels a little bit disorienting, but other than that I loved it. (2)

The third and final fic I would like to talk about today is titled Post Two: Fanfiction. This story is by Liam Stewart and is about Doctor Who. Revolving around the first Doctor and his two companions Barbara and Ian this story brings seems to bring Barbara and Ian back to their native 1963, with The Doctor alongside them of course, but in fact has brought them to 2018 which was an idea I thought was quite interesting. Finding that seemingly everyone except them are seem to have been frozen for months ending there. This has all the makings of the set up for a fairly good episode of modern Doctor Who (I can't speak to classic DW) and should this story be continued I would very much enjoy reading more of it. (3)
